Director Solar Commercial Sales (So Cal) – Solar Company Solana Beach HQ
The Director of Commercial Sales will participate in Sequoia’s Leadership Team with responsibility for providing leadership for commercial sales strategies. This position will be responsible for the company’s commercial solar sales activities, identifying and developing key commercial business relationships and developing and managing a successful commercial sales force. No relocation benefits. Only candidates with commercial solar sales management experience will be considered.
Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Plans and directs Sequoia’s commercial solar sales policies, objectives and initiatives in alignment with Sequoia’s business goals, values and objectives.
- Develops the commercial solar sales plan to fulfill the growth and revenue goals of the organization.
- Responsible for ensuring maximum commercial solar sales volume of Sequoia’s products and services.
- Manages all aspects of the commercial sales function including outside sales and customer service teams.
- Drives, plans and executes commercial solar sales for the Company throughout California and potentially throughout the country to commercial, industrial, municipal and government entities.
- Identify and target key commercial clients and accounts for increased market penetration.
- Establish commercial sales plans and objectives in coordination with the CEO and CFO.
- Coordinate objectives with other functional departments to project completion.
- Build, train and manage the commercial sales organization leading sales force through measurable performance objectives.
- Quickly, consistently & effectively qualify new sales opportunities, create and close contracts as quickly as possible.
- Lead and participate in negotiations of major commercial contracts and pricing with vendors.
- Developing and maintain successful relationships with key sophisticated clients.
- Inputs, makes recommendations and participates in developing marketing strategies and advertising.
- Represent Sequoia in a professional leadership capacity at key public and government events, meetings and functions.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and 7-10+ years sales and management experience, at least 2-4 in the Solar industry, specifically commercial solar with a solid track record of leading a driven and highly successful solar sales organization.
- Must have a solid understanding and experience with financing large projects.
- Demonstrated experience having built and led sales teams.
- Excellent management, leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively to create results & develop a highly motivated, driven commercial sales force.
- Exceptional ability to manage and drive details and track multi-faceted relationships and agreements
- Exceptional verbal and written communication/presentation skills, including ability to conduct compelling and concise demonstrations to technical and non-technical audiences, as well as training presentations to sales staff.
- Thorough knowledge of financing and rebate programs for domestic commercial solar/PV industry.
- Proven ability to identify product and service suitability for a market and to develop and implement marketing plans to drive business development.
- Requires a strong working knowledge of PV systems from technical, sales, installation and estimation perspectives.
- Must be extremely flexible as this is a new emerging rapidly growing and quickly evolving industry and business.
- Travel will be required as business necessitates.
- Experience with SalesForce is highly desirable.
Sr. Design Engineer – Solar Company Solana Beach, CA
Responsibilities & Requirements
- Designs and Engineers commercial and residential solar system installation projects
- Coordinate project design reviews, outside approvals, jurisdictional and utility approvals for projects
- Evaluate solar products and projects and provide input and ideas to reduce lifecycle costs
- Reduce the installed cost of our systems through value engineering, standardization and process improvement
- Assess utility interconnection methods based on site analysis
- Perform calculations, design and drafting of electrical systems
- Create plans, schematics, equipment selection, load calculations, system design and layout
- Responsible for creation of permit documents, construction documents, project BOM
- May verify system specifications in the field including measurements on roofs and evaluation electrical components on various properties
- Contributes to the development of company design standards
- Develop and consolidate design and engineering tools
- Conduct research to enhance or improve current design & engineering methodologies
- Ensure the highest levels of design quality and adhere to company design standards and applicable electrical and building codes
- Assist in documenting industry best-practices for design and engineering
- Assist in any proposals, cost analysis, permitting, inspections, site evaluations and construction issues as needed
- May participate in outside sales meetings & presentations as a technical resource
- May provide leadership and guidance to and oversee the work of junior engineers and drafters

- Requires Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
- Must have at least 3-4 years experience designing commercial & residential PV Systems
- NABCEP or LEED AP Certified highly desirable
- California Licensed PE helpful
- Must be extremely detail oriented and highly organized
- Must have advanced AutoCAD skills
- Advanced Excel required and proficient in MS Outlook and Word
- Must have strong understanding of all relevant codes including but not limited to NEC Electrical & Building Codes
- Must have excellent communication skills (verbal & written). Good presentation skills desirable.
- Must be able to read, understand and edit electrical and structural plans and blueprints
- Must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Must be able to multi-task and manage multiple projects effectively

Commercial Solar Sales – Solana Beach, CA
Responsibilities & Requirements
- Perform sales of complex PV systems and solutions to commercial, municipal, and government entities.
- Prepare complete utility, financial, and technical analysis.
- Acquire and analyze customers’ current and projected electrical usage, and financial return on investment
- Review project requirements, RFPs and proposals
- Complete jobsite visits as required to evaluate site conditions, shading concerns, electrical tie-ins and other items impacting system design and constructability
- Estimate cost and pricing and generate proposals independently with a cost value and module layout
- Present proposals and PPTs to key decision makes including executive board level professionals
- Generate, pursue, qualify and close sales leads through contract signing
- Penetrate targeted organizations, identify key decision makers and drive sales to a close.
- Conduct site evaluations for potential clients and prepare rough system design
- Negotiate contract terms, conditions, pricing, schedule
- Communicate and coordinate with project managers, design engineers, installation and marketing.
- Track, input and update leads and contracts in sales management program
- Determine product & services strategy and present various financial solutions which can be customized to meet a variety of customers “clean energy needs”
- Build, nurture long-term customer relationships based on problem solving, knowledge, service and solution sales
- Actively attend and participate in Company promotional events and government meetings and functions

- BA (or equivalent )
- Must have at least 3 years B2B sales or at least 1-2 years commercial PV sales experience including estimating projects in excess of 100kW for inclusion in sales proposals
- Proven track record closing multimillion dollar contracts required
- Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of state solar rebate programs, renewable tax credits and general solar industry programs and the renewable energy industry. NABCEP certification desirable.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal relationship skills required
- Must be proficient in Word and Outlook with Intermediate skills in Excel and PowerPoint
- Must be able to powerfully present to executive board level professionals
- Must have demonstrated skills and experience performing financial calculations (ROI, IRR, NPV, APR, etc…)
- Must have very strong math skills and acute attention to detail
- Solid understanding of electricity and electrical contracting required
- Solid understanding of general construction highly desirable
- Ability to read, understand, and edit electrical and structural plans

Staff Accountant (mid-level) – Solar Company Solana Beach
Job Duties and Minimum Requirements:
- Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
- Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
- Reports organization’s finances to management, and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
- Performs routine to complex general accounting duties including but not limited to full cycle AP, AR, collections, job costing, General Ledger, journal entries
- Maintain accounting records and files
- Update Quickbooks for manual and electronic disbursements
- Process vendor and customer payments
- Create and update monthly Excel files
- May provide leadership to lower level accounting clerks
- Other duties as assigned
- Requires BA Accounting (or equivalent) and at least 2-4 years of related accounting experience including full-cycle AP, AR, GL, financial analysis
- Some experience in construction business helpful
- Knowledge of Job Costing highly desired
- Must have experience with Accrual based accounting
- Must have intermediate-advanced skills in Quickbooks, Excel , Word, Outlook
